I’m still pinching myself after an incredible few days at the 2025 NZIPP Iris Awards. Standing on that stage and being named New Zealand Professional Photographer of the Year is something I never dreamed would actually happen — and yet here I am, holding that honour with a very full heart.

For those who don’t know, the Iris Awards are run by the New Zealand Institute of Professional Photography (NZIPP) and are the most prestigious professional photography awards in the country. Every year photographers from all over Aotearoa submit their best work to be judged by a panel of respected peers. It’s an inspiring celebration of the craft, and a reminder of the talent, passion, and community we have within the photographic industry.

This year I entered with images that mean a great deal to me personally — photographs that reflect my love of storytelling, the beauty of family connections, and the artistry that can be found in the simplest of moments. To have those images recognised on this level is humbling beyond words.

Receiving the title of New Zealand Professional Photographer of the Year is not just about me — it’s about my incredible clients who trust me with their memories, my family who supports me endlessly, and the NZIPP community who continues to push me forward to grow and evolve.

One of the most special moments of the awards was also being awarded the Grand Master of Photography, the highest distinction within the Institute. It marks a career milestone I never imagined reaching when I first picked up a camera. To stand alongside the legends of our industry who hold this title is both surreal and motivating.

The Iris Awards are a reminder of why I fell in love with photography in the first place. They challenge us, they inspire us, and they connect us. I am so proud to be part of a community that constantly lifts each other up and celebrates creativity at its very best.

I’m feeling incredibly grateful, inspired, and excited for what comes next. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey — this achievement belongs to all of you too.
